Seventeen

Jim Buntinx thumbnail
Jim Buntinx A progrock masterpiece featuring a virtuous rebirth of this formidable band continued by founding member and keyboard magician Ton Scherpenzeel. This album contains all the ingredients to stun the listener with its versatility, both melodically and lyrically, from beginning to end. An equally baffling creation compared to their follow-up 'Out of this World', in my humble opinion.

about

Seventeen is Kayak's seventeenth studio album. The album was recorded in the KHS studio in Scherpenzeel with additional recordings in the Lakeside Studios in Loosdrecht and The Grien Room in Leeuwarden. Special guest on this album is guitarist Andrew Latimer of Camel, the band with which Scherpenzeel gave several performances before the realization of this album. Most of the music is from the two-year period prior to the album. Only a few pieces date from before, such as Feathers and tar, which is based on an unreleased piece from Cleopatra. The album is dedicated to Lida Rikkert, Scherpenzeel's mother and amateur violinist and first piano teacher of his.
The album was well received within the progressive rock niche. To promote the album Kayak will perform in the formation Bart Schwertmann (vocals), Marcel Singor (guitar), Kristoffer Gildenlöw (bass), Ton Scherpenzeel (keys) and Collin Leijenaar (drums). Leijenaar was not available at the time of the recordings; Robbemont not during the planned concert series. Scherpenzeel felt relieved because Gildenlöw and Leijenaar had also played together during a tour of Neal Morse. The album had previously been in the Dutch Album Top 100 for two weeks (places 6 and 66).
